Thank You!

Aloha!

Thank you to everyone who helped make this weekend’s fundraiser such a success! Rumours was packed with some of our favorite family, friends, and supporters — we couldn’t believe how many people chose to spend their Valentine’s Day with us!

Special thanks go out to:

  • Kumu Renee – It was so nice to finally see you dance! We know how hard you work time and again, thank you!
  • Aunty Linda and the girls – Seeing you ladies dance is always one of the highlights of the event!
  • Rumours staff – It is always a pleasure working with you, thank you for taking care of our guests!
  • Our family and friends – Thank you for always supporting our halau!
  • HP dancers – Your hard work is always appreciated, yet often goes unrecognized. Thank you!

I hope everyone had a lot of fun, and is looking forward to our next trip more than ever (I know I am)!

I planned on uploading some pictures today, but I forgot that stuff at home :(   Hopefully I’ll get around to that either tonight or some time tomorrow. If you have any photos you’d like to share, please e-mail them halaupomaikaikalani [at] yahoo [dot] com. (Sorry the e-mail address looks so funny, we’re typing it this way to try and avoid spam!)

Jan. 23 Meeting Notes

Hi ladies! A lot of information was discussed at yesterday’s meeting, and since so many dancers weren’t in attendance, I figured I run over some of the bigger topics. Here we go!

Halau Fundraiser

1. The basics: Halau Pomaikaikalani’s annual fundraiser will be held on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, 2009, 3 to 8 p.m. at Rumours in the Ala Moana Hotel (in case you were living under a rock and didn’t know!).

2. All $10 admisssion tickets for dancers to sell as a fundraiser should have already been distributed. If you did not receive your tickets, please contact Kumu as soon as possible. Each dancer is responsible for her own monies fundraised, and will need to turn in such monies based on the due dates of our competition expenses.

3. Each dancer will be required to donate $50 in raffle ticket prizes, 3 prizes worth $10 each (for the $1 raffle tickets) and $20 in cash or gift certificates (for the $5 raffle tickets). Dancers will be permitted to couple-up for the $5 raffle prizes (2 dancers combine for a $40 gift certificate).

4. On the day of the fundraiser, all dancers will be required to check in at Rumours at noon. Please remember, as always, no outside food or drink is allowed in Rumours — so eat lunch early!

Halau Uniforms

1. Money for new halau uniforms will be collected at our first practices after the Feb. 14 fundraiser. $50 will be due on Feb. 20 for the wahines, and Feb. 27 for the kupunas.

2. Once our new uniforms are ready, they will be required at every practice. There will be a $5 penalty for not wearing the proper uniform (including skirt and leotard) to practice. Any monies collected will be put toward refreshments for the dancers.

Ia ‘Oe E Ka La Flight Information

1. We will leave Honolulu at 2:05 p.m. on Nov. 4, arriving in Oakland, Calif. at 9 p.m.

2. We will return on Nov. 9, leaving Oakland at 9 a.m. and arriving in Honolulu at 12:05 p.m.

3. As of Jan. 22, Hawaiian Airlines priced our trip at a little over $650 for our group.

If you have any questions or concerns at all, please do not hesitate to contact me or kumu.

Stay tuned for a post outlining our schedules through February.
